Multi_Commodity Supply Network Design in Nonprofit Reverse Logistics

Adel Waleed Fadhel , Malick Ndiaye

كلية علوم وهندسة الحاسب الآلي-جامعة الملك فهد للبترول والمعادن · السعودية

The awareness of the necessity of introducing reverse logistics network design into the strategic supply chain management is increasing among researchers and practitioners of reverse logistics systems. The literature review of this field reveals that two main approaches are adopted to develop and implement reverse logistics network design which are the integrated or the closed loop supply chain and the separated reverse logistics design. The selection between these two approaches depends on the assumptions of the system to be modeled. Unlike commercial logistics, humanitarian logistics is at the first stages of development. The research in this regard has grown rapidly in recent years but the challenges appearing in theory and practice require expediting the research more and more to satisfy market demand. In this thesis, we study the problem of designing a model of a collection and redistribution system network that reduces the cost in a nonprofit supply network and increases benefits to beneficiaries. By adopting the reverse production system framework in the nonprofit reverse logistics environment, we developed two collection and redistribution system models for the Saudi Food Bank (Eta'am). The first model is concerned with the excess food collection and redistribution system and the second model is developed for a multi-commodity collection and redistribution system as an extension of the first one. By solving the two models for different budget constraints, we identified a point between centralization and decentralization of the collection and redistribution centers at which the responsiveness of the system is increased. Finally, we provided suggestions to increase the efficiency of collection and redistribution processes for Eta'am and discussed areas of future research of the study.

جامعة القدس · فلسطين

Ectopic pregnancy is a serious health problem that might imply life-threatening complications among women in the reproductive stage. Despite the well-known implications of early diagnosis and surgical management of ectopic pregnancy, women's experience of ectopic pregnancy and its consequences is not well understood, particularly within the Palestinian context. Aim and Objectives: This study aimed to explore the psychological, physical, and social dimensions of Palestinian women's experiences following an ectopic pregnancy. Methodology: A qualitative phenomenological design was employed, using purposive sampling. Ten women who had experienced ectopic pregnancy at Ramallah Governmental Hospital and Al-Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem participated in-depth in semi-structured interviews, which were conducted between February and June 2023. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns in participants' narratives. Main Findings: Five major themes emerged: (1) Psychological Impact, characterized by sadness, denial, guilt, fears about future fertility, and feelings of inadequacy; (2) Physical Impact, marked by severe persistent pain and difficulties related to medical procedures; (3) Social Impact, including inadequate support, stigmatization, and social isolation; (4) Marital Dynamics, ranging from blame and ignorance to support and care; and (5) Healthcare Provider Interactions, revealing lack of psychological support and unclear communication about treatments and prognosis. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that ectopic pregnancy profoundly affects women's psychological well-being, physical health, social relationships, and marital dynamics. Palestinian women face unique challenges influenced by cultural and healthcare system factors. This study highlights the need for integrated psychosocial support, clear communication from healthcare providers, holistic pain management, and enhanced post-treatment guidance. These insights can inform improvements in clinical practice and support systems for women experiencing this challenging reproductive health event.

This experiment was carried out of study the chemical compositionand feeding value of fermenting combined to mixture of pigeon peas(Cajanus cajan) seeds with (sorghum grain or sugar). Five mixing ratios ofsorghum grains (20, 40, 60 and 80%) with one another mixing ratio (25%)of normal sugar were added to the substrates of pigeon peas seeds. Thecombined mixtures were soaked thoroughly in water and subjected tonatural fermentation process until all of them were completely fermented. The fermented products were sun dried and then some samples were takenfor tannin analysis and proximate tannin determination chemical analytical. On the basis of the chemical composition, the fermented productswere used to formulate six dietary treatments where the total proteinprovided by the composition commercial super-concentrate of the broilerdiets was replaced in each dietary treatment by protein of one of thefermented products.A feeding trial through six week duration was conducted using 144unsexed day old broiler chicks in an open–side deep litter poultry house.Using complete randomized design, the formulated six dieting treatmentwere randomly assigned to the experimental birds in the prepared penswithin the experimental house, so that each dietary treatment was replicatethrice where the experimental pen constitutes a replicate group of eightbirds each. The management processes throughout the experimental periodinclude provision of optimum thermal and ventilation environment; ad libwatering and feeding; vaccination against Gumboro and New Castlediseases; in addition to performance records keeping. The obtained results revealed that weight gain, feed intake, feedutilization efficiency, dressing % were significantly improved P< 0.05 withlow levels of carbohydrates (20 – 25) sugar mixture. We concluded that lownutritional quality of the pigeon peas seeds (Cajanus cajan) can beenhanced by fermentation processes in the presents of low level ofcarbohydrates (20% sorghum grains or 25% sugar).

Third Mission Accelerator Labs (TMALs): An exploratory study on the strategic evolution of sustainability in university-business incubators (UBIs)

الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة · مصر

Globally, higher education institutions (HEIs) are devoting rising resources in order to remain competitive, impactful and attractive within the ever-changing socio-economic developments and to well position and communicate their value among their stakeholders (Lafuente-Ruiz-de-Sabando, et al. 2018). Students today want to do more than just get a degree; they want to create businesses, develop new markets, and start social movements (Kay et al., 2010). Under the open innovation model, universities' third mission (TM) includes deeper linkages and engagements with the private and public sectors, emphasizing the development of entrepreneurial mindsets, skills, and incubation services to encourage new business ventures, in addition to teaching (their first and conventional mission) and researching (their second mission). The earliest known model of the TM is the idea of an entrepreneurial university. University Business Incubators (UBIs) have gained prominence in this entrepreneurial paradigm shift, providing support to early-stage founders and start-ups, fostering innovation, and transferring intellectual knowledge to practical applications for the broader community (Stal et al., 2016). However, concerns arise regarding environmental sustainability and growing socio-economic inequalities. Higher education must play a vital role in igniting attitudes, behaviors, and leadership for sustainable transformation. UBIs must evolve from their traditional focus on commercial entrepreneurship to promote and advance sustainable entrepreneurship knowledge and practices (Moreno et al., 2019). This research explores UBIs' strategic evolution to promote sustainable business innovation. It develops a model to ignite entrepreneurial attitudes and sustainability practices within different entrepreneurship education models to serve as empowering spaces for community-led sustainable growth and development.
