Sea waves are considered the most potent energy carriers among all sources of renewable energy. This research work is concerned with developingtechnologies to enhance performance and improve power capturing and conversion capabilities of a single heaving wave energy converter (WEC) actuated by a PMLG (Permanent Magnet Linear Generator). The objective of this dissertation is achieved by three techniques. The first one considers maximizing conversion between the mechanical and electrical powers. It is implemented by designing intrinsic resistance using a rapid procedure involving the mechanical and electrical models of the converter and considering its operating constraints. A robust PID (proportional – integral – derivative) controller is synthesized using complex polynomial stabilization to satisfy robust performance specifications and is utilized in the servo feedback control system to follow the velocity reference which is generated by the designed intrinsic resistance. The method is tested in several nominal and perturbed scenarios and its performance is compared with existing control strategies. It is also verified experimentally on a hardware in the loop experiment rig. In the second technique, a novel simple resonance circuit is implemented to maximize the ac-dc power conversion of a PMLG. A procedure is developed for designing a two-sided planner PMLG considering the corresponding physical parameters. The resonance circuit is composed of a three-phase rectifier with a shunt connection of capacitors between its diodes. The performance of the proposed circuit is compared with an existing resonance circuit. The designed resonance circuit generates more power, requires fewer components and presents fewer harmonics. Finally, a novel operation and control strategy for a wave power system consisting of a WEC, a battery storage unit, and a set of loads, is proposed to control the power flow at DC-link terminal.

Numerous Upper Miocene to Quaternary harrats (alkali basalt volcanic fields) litter the western margin of Saudi Arabia along the Red Sea between Jordan and Yemen and are related to the opening of the Red Sea system. Many of these harrats have alkaline scoria bombs and lavas that bear mantle xenoliths, and one of these is Harrat Uwayrid, situated between Tabuk to the north and Al Ula to the south. This study presents new whole-rock and mineral chemistry data of Uwayrid mantle xenoliths. It provides new insights into their petrogenesis, including degrees of partial melting and oxygen fugacity of their source.Harrat Uwayrid peridotite xenoliths are classified as spinel lherzolite, spinel harzburgite with rare wehrlites. The xenoliths range from cm-scale to fist-size and are found primarily within basanite scoria bombs that comprise cinder cones in the central Pliocene to Quaternary field; a few were recovered, for the first time, from Upper Miocene alkali basalt and hawaiite lavas in the southern plateau. No distinctive features are apparent between peridotite xenoliths discovered in the older and younger host rocks.Fo# of olivines from most of the Harrat Uwayrid peridotite xenoliths ranges from 83.46 – 93.05. Mg# of clinopyroxene range from 83.33 – 93.84 with an average of 91.86. Cr# values range from 2.60 – 16.90 with an average of 11.63. Mg# of orthopyroxenes ranges from 89.40 – 93.68, with an average of 91.55, whereas orthopyroxene Cr# ranges from 3.41 – 16.34, with an average of 6.86.Based on Cr#, calculated degrees of partial melting are low to moderate, ranging from 1 – 17 %. Rare Earth Elements (REE) analysis exhibits distinct Light REE (LREE) enrichment relative to chondritic values. Calculated based on the compositions of coexisting olivine-orthopyroxene-spinel, oxygen fugacity values are -1.89 to -0.22 (relative to fayalite-magnetite-quartz, FMQ, buffer), suggesting equilibration in reduced conditions. Thermobarometry calculations based on coexisting olivine and clinopyroxene associations suggest that the peridotite xenoliths equilibrated at ~1.72 – 3.76 GPa at temperatures of ~1090o – 1135o C, corresponding to a depth of ~50 – 105 km.Therefore, the study establishes that the peridotite mantle xenoliths from Harrat Uwayrid were subjected to partial melting and metasomatism. They generally exhibit similar degrees of partial melting, oxidation state and metasomatism compared to other similarly aged western Arabian Harrats. This indicates the mantle below Harrat Uwayrid was subjected to similar large-scale events of the Arabian plate.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) consider as one of the top popular crop in Palestine; is infected with several pathogens where Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) is one of the most devastating one, causing serious damages and large economical losses on tomato crops. This study was aimed to reveal the presence and prevalence of the virus in Palestinian territories (West Bank) for the first time. About 232 samples were collected from different governorate of northern of West bank Palestine during the growing season 2017 / 2018 and were tested for TSWV by double antibody sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (DAS-ELISA). During the field surveys, several symptoms were noticed on tomato plants in the field of Nablus; Tubas; Qalqilia; Talkarem; Jenin and Jericho. The appeared symptoms were on leaves as leaf yellowing, brown rings or line patterns. The whole plants showed reduction in growth, chlorotic and necrotic spots on both leaves and fruits. These systematic symptoms were considered as the best indication for the existence of (TSWV). By serological test, the presence of TSWV on tomato plants in Palestine was confirmed; where the prevalence of the virus was reached up to 1.27%. This low percent was considered alarming, since the possibility of transmitting the virus through thrips that commonly widespread in the country. Looking for virus resistant varieties was recommended. This research study was to confirm the presence of this important virus in Palestine for the first time.
