This study aims to investigate the effect of corpus consultation on learners' writing performance and attitudes at Sultan Qaboos University. The study population consists of 52 students enrolled in the Writing 2 course (LANC 1120) in the Language Center in the spring semester 2012. The sample comprises two intact classes (N=20). One class functioned as the experimental group and the other as the control group. An attitude questionnaire was also developed by the researcher based on the available literature to elicit students' attitudes towards the use of the corpus in writing. The results of the study showed the following:1. There was no significant difference at the .05 level in the writing performanceof the experimental and the control groups as far as the grammar knowledge isconcerned, 2. The results of the attitude questionnaire analysis revealed that the students inthe experimental group had a highly positive attitude towards the use of the corpus in writingIn the light of these findings, recommendations are made for further research.
