The spectral properties of oil of plant leaves and stems have been testedby ultraviolet, visible, and infrared frequencies. The reflectance, transmittance, and absorptance for certain plants give the mechanism by which radiant energy interacts with oil. Thiswork aimed to study the optical properties of Cactus oil with different solvents in different concentrations. For this purpose, samples of Cactus oil were prepared by adding these solvents: Dimethylformamide, Ethanol, Methanol and Hexthanol in concentrations: 25%, 50% and 75%. These samples were tested by a Spectrophotometer of the ultraviolet and visible Model 1240 to measure the impact of these solvents in their different concentrations on the optical properties of cactus oil such as: energy gap, absorption coefficient, extinction coefficient, reflective and refractive index. The Results reveals that energy gap decreases when increasing concentration whereas the energy gap of Dimethylformamide changes from 3.56 – 3.34 eV when changing concentration from 25 ـ 50%. Ethanol changes from 3.53 – 2.43 eV when changing concentration from 25 ـ 75%, Methanol changes from 4 – 2.32 eV when changing concentration from 25 ـ 75%, Hexthanol changes from 4.07 – 3.01 eV when changing concentration from 25 ـ 50%. When measuring refractive index, its value ranges between 2.8 to 3.8 for all samples. The extinction coefficient ranges between 2 to 2.7 for all samples. at the wavy length is 408nm. Moreover, the change in the optical properties of Ethanol, Methanol and Hexthanol solvents a random one. The best solvent is Dimethyl because the changed in optical properties is regular. The study recommends carrying out more investigations to find these properties by using other solvents.
