Two independent experiments on pregnant rabbits wereconducted to examine tlle effect of diagnostic ionizing radiationon pregnancy. The first experiment was a proof of concept thatdiagnostic ionizing radiation is hazardous throughout thegestation period. The second experiment was done throughTransmission Electron Microscopy to study the ultra structure ofsamples taken from irradiated pregnant rabbits. We have foundthat diagnostic ionizing radiation of less than 0.6 Gray mayresult in damage of uterus and ovarian cells as shown in themorphological changes captured through optical and electronmicroscopy. The study recommends prohibition of use of X-rayon pregnant women through the whole gestation period insupport to the latest recommendations of the World HealthOrganization and other health care institutions worldwide.
