It is not uncommon for fast-growing growing companies to face bottlenecks at one or more levels of their business processes. In Lebanon, a company named HedgeGuard with offices in Beirut, London and Paris, faced a bottleneck that resulted from a spike in demand for their novel cryptocurrency-supported Portfolio Management System (PMS). Following a review of the literature, a framework is presented to dissect and choose the best of multiple proposed solutions. To write this case I visited HedgeGuard to collect data such as payroll expenses, history of client acquisition, organizational charts and more. I met several employees from various departments and conducted multiple interviews with the CFO and CEO. What resulted was a teaching case that details HedgeGuard’s history including the events that led it to the problem it faced recently. The paper concludes with the decision to implement the proposed solution with the lowest Net Present Value as well as the real-world results of that decision.

This study presents an evaluation of use of the cement waste as chemicalstabilizers and recycling fiber glass wastes and plastic waste (PET Bottles)as soil reinforcement, for improving the strength and stability of soils.An experimental program was conducted to investigate the effect ofmaterials waste and evaluate the efficiency of their use on clay soil asstabilizers, this was achieved based on a study of the effect of materialswaste on the properties of clay soil such as optimum moisture content(OMC), maximum dry density and shear strength parameters (cohesion(c)and angle of friction (ɸ)). The aim was to determine the optimum content ofeach of these materials waste and consequently, to reduce the pollutionwhich results from accumulation of (plastics waste (PET: PolyethyleneTeraphathalate), fiber glass and cement waste). A series of laboratorycompaction, triaxial and California Bearing Capacity (CBR) tests werecarried out.Various percentages of cement waste (3, 6, 9, 12 and 15%) of dry weight ofsoil was added to clay soil and tested. Also soil was reinforced randomly bydifferent percentage (0.5, 1.5, 3, 6, 9 and 12 %) of dry weight of soil byfiber glass (length 10-30mm) and Plastic (PET) bottles strips waste (lengthand width (5-10mm)). Soil specimens were compacted at maximum drydensity.Results of soil treated by cement waste indicate that addition of cementwaste increased the shear strength (385.38 mPa at age 2hours) and CBR()to a maximum value for up to 9% addition, when the percentage ofaddition of cement waste was equal to or greater than 9% soil became nonplastic. The OMC decreased with an increase of more than 12% of cement~ V ~waste content. The dry density of the soil decreased from 1.56 to 1.48 g/cm3with an increasing of cement waste content. `Results of soil reinforced by fiber glass and PET bottle indicate that anincreasing of fiber glass and plastic bottle content decreased the maximumdry density and increased the OMC. The highest increase in strength value(386.82 mPa) was achieved when the soil was reinforced by 3.0 % of fiberglass content and (386 mPa) when the soil was reinforced by 1.5% ofplastic bottle content and the highest CBR value was achieved at 3.0% offiber glass and PET bottle content respectively.The highest CBR value was 8.3 times the CBR of natural clay soil for soiltreated by cement waste, 3.6 times the CBR of natural clay soil for soilreinforced by fiber glass and 2.1 times the CBR of natural clay soil forreinforced by PET bottle waste.As a result of this study it is recommended to use not more than 9% ofcement waste, 3% fiber glass waste and (1.5% to 3%) PET bottle waste asstabilizers to improve the shear strength and CBR of clayey soil.

يمثل الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر أهم مصادر التمويل الخارجي، و لذلك تهافتت عليه أغلب الدول العربية بما فيها الإمارات العربية المتحدة وأبدت دولة الإمارات رغبتها القوية في استقطاب الاستثمار الأجنبي المباشر من خلال جهودها المبذولة لتوفير مناخ ملائم له و المتمثلة في إصلاحات اقتصادية وكذا العمل على توفير الحوافز والضمانات إضافة إلى سن القوانين والتشريعات، وهي تعول عليه كثيرا لتحقيق التنمية في اقتصادها، ولتكون هناك أيضا تنمية مستدامة في البلاد حيث تعتبر دولة الإمارات العربية المتحدة في مقدمة الدول العربية التي أولت اهتماما بالتنمية المستدامة وجعلتها من أولوياتها عند تبنيها لأي سياسة تنموية، وبذلت في سبيل تحقيق ذلك العديد من الجهود، إذ عملت على تهيئة البيئة المناسبة وذلك من خلال إنشاءها العديد من المؤسسات)التدخل الإداري( وإطلاقها العديد من المبادرات والاستراتيجيات، وتشريعها للعديد من القوانين واللوائح التنفيذية (التدخل التشريعي( وانضمامها للعديد من الاتفاقيات الدولية (التعاون الدولي) المعنية بالتنمية المستدامة والتي مكنت الإمارات من تحقيق التقدم في مؤشرات التنمية المستدامة )الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والبيئية والمؤسسية(، والتي عكست مدى نجاح الدولة في تحقيق التنمية المُستدامة.

La corrosion microbienne a été longtemps à l'origine de pertes considérables dans divers secteurs industriels de nombreux travaux ont été réalisés afin d'élucider les mécanismes de la biocorrosion, et plusieurs théories ont été proposées. Mais du fait de la complexité du phénomène et du nombre de facteurs impliqués, le pH, la température, la pression, la teneur en oxygène, la production de métabolites bactériens divers, l'organisation des micro-organismes en consortium, la multiplication des populations bactériennes et la création de biofilms, les mécanismes sont loin d'être entièrement expliqués. Les bactéries sulfato-réductrices sont présentes dans presque tous les biotopes. Depuis les travaux de Widdel et Pfenning, ces bactéries n'apparaissent plus comme un groupe extrêmement spécialisé, mais au contraire comme un groupe pouvant métaboliser un grand nombre de substrats organiques et réduire d'autres composés que le sulfate. Notre travail est axé sur l'étude de ce phénomène de corrosion afin de comprendre dans quelles conditions la participation des micro-organismes dans le phénomène de corrosion est possible et de proposer des méthodes appropriées pour réduire ces effets.

The Telecommunication market is expanding rapidly in Sudan. New operators areentering the market. This implies the existence of interconnection agreementsbetween the different operators in order to avoid arise of conflicts. Theinterconnection agreement between telecommunication operators has threeaspects: Technical; commercial; and legal aspects.This study aims at investigating the interconnection agreement between Sudateland Mobitel and compare to other international practices.The research methodology involved literature review of some internationaltelecommunication interconnection agreements, data gathering on existinginterconnection between Sudatel and Mobitel. The data was interpreted, analyzedand compared with international agreements.The study revealed the existence of some drawbacks and shortcomings in theexisting agreement between Sudatel and Mobitel. The agreement need to befurther revised in its technical, commercial and legal aspects. In addition, theexistence of a written agreement is highly recommended.In order to guarantee a fair market competition between the differenttelecommunication operators and safeguard/protect the rights of subscribers, theNational Telecommunication Corporation, NTC, has a great role to play. NTC hasto put the technical, commercial and legal framework that governs and regulatesthe relationships between the telecommunication operators as well as protectingthe rights of the subscribers.
