Artemether / lumefantrine have become very important in treatment of malaria. Chemically ratemeter (ART) also called combination is the first fixed dose oral combination of an artemisinin derivative with a second unrelated antimalarial component. Many factors affect the drug stability such as environmental conditions which involve temperature , light , humidity, and air also Chemical factors such as oxidation, hydrolysis, pH, ionic strength, radiation and catalyst . The aim of this study was to explain the effect of temperature and light on the stability of Artemether – Lumfntrine , which have been produced in one of the local pharmaceutical factories. Measurements were carried out by UV – visible spectroscopy for quantitative analysis. The UV –Visible spectrum for Artem ether – Lumefantrine gives two maxima at 300 nm ( ART) and 240 nm (Lum) . 100 mg from the tablet were accurately weighed and transferred to 100 ml volumetric flask containing 100 ml methanol. standard solutions of ATM and LUM was prepared (1 , 2 , 3 , 4 ,5 , 6 ,7 and 8) mg\ / li. These solutions were treated in four different conditions at room temperature, 35°C, 40°C in water baths for 60 minute and sun light for 60 minutes. It found that both LUM and ART solutions obey Beer – lambert Law. The absorbance of LUM at room temperature, 35°C ,40°C and sunlight were ( 0.12 , 0.13 , 0.14 and 0.09 ) respectively absorbance of ART at room temperature, 35°C ,40°C and sunlight (0.04 , 0.06 , 0.08 and 0.12) respectively.in exposure to sun light increases, while that of LUM decreases. The change in Absorptivity with change of conditions may be due conformational changes, structural changes or breakage of bonds in the neighbourhood of the chromospheres. The study recommends further study and analysis to investigate the molecular changes with temperature and exposure to sun light. the drug should be kept at low temperature and protected from sun light.
