Electrocardiogram (ECG) is a test which measures the function of the heart, ECG waveform consists of the P, Q, R, S and T wave. Wireless technology was able to utilize modern Information Technology (IT) and telecommunication for interactive healthcare and employ the wireless device for the efficient remote ECG monitoring system. Now days in wireless communication network it was possible to transmit and receive biomedical signals through wireless technology, and wireless ECG monitoring can be used in both hospital and home healthcare. The aim of this study is to design a wireless ECG system for analysis and wireless monitoring. Multisim software was used for simulation of ECG signal. A band pass filter with cut off frequencies of range (0.5 – 40.6 Hz) was used to remove 50 Hz noise from power line, the resulted ECG signal was fed to Laboratory Virtual Instrument Engineering workbench (LabVIEW) software to calculate the heart rate from QRS complex detection for sending it by Radio Frequency (RF) transmitter to doctor phone through RF receiver. This process of sending and receiving ECG was done using RF module. The RF module comprises of an RF transmitter and an RF receiver, the transmitter and receiver (Tx and Rx) pair operates at a frequency of 434 MHz. The results showed that the ECG signal obtained from ECG circuit with frequency range (0.5 – 40 Hz), QRS duration up to 0.1seconds, R-R interval (heart rate) in range (0.6 – 1 minute) .The circuit design in labview block diagram was able to calculate heart rate as a database and sent it to RF transmitter module. Tx and Rx module performs good result in sending and receiving heart rates from patient PC to doctor phone in one second and for 200 meter distance. The study recommends improving the high speed Analog to digital conversion (ADC) or Digital Signal Processor (DSP) processor for optimum number of samples to be transmitted for efficient ECG receiving. In addition, to implement advance and reliable alarm function for abnormal heart rate, connection to perhaps to Global Position System (GPS) depending to the handheld Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) inbuilt functions required to achieve high performance monitoring, and recommends to use high quality and modern RF module for above 200meter distance.
