Aim of the study:The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of acetaminophen in the closure of the Patent Ductus Arteriosus in preterm infants and to compare its effectiveness with the efficacy of ibuprofen.Materials and Methods:The study was conducted in the Department of Pediatrics at Aleppo University Hospital with 42preterm children, divided into two groups. The first included 84children treated with acetaminophen. The second included 84children treated with ibuprofen. This study was extended throughout 2017. 36 weeks A condition for the child's entry into the study. The presence of the Patent Ductus Arteriosus in all children was confirmed by ultrasound.ResultsAcetaminophen was able to achieve a success rate of 22% against the success rate of ibuprofen treatment, which reached 93%, but without significant difference between the two treatments P = 0.549.Conclusionthe Patent Ductus Arteriosus in preterm infants can be treated with acetaminophen.
