الملخص
In this study, a green chemistry method was used to synthesize polymer composites based on polyethylene oxide (PEO). The remediation of metal complexes applied in this work is environmentally friendly and cost-effective. Zinc metal ion (Zn²⁺)–polyphenol (PPHNL) complexes were synthesized by combining a black tea leaves (BTL) extract solution with dissolved zinc acetate. UV-Vis and FTIR analyses were conducted on the Zn–PPHNL complex in both liquid and solid states. The FTIR spectra show that BTL contains sufficient functional groups (O–H, C–H, C=O, C=C, C–O, C–N, and N–H), as well as PPHNL and conjugated double bonds, which facilitate the formation of metal complexes by capturing Zn²⁺ cations from the zinc acetate salt. Furthermore, the FTIR analysis of both BTL and the Zn–PPHNL complex confirms complex formation through noticeable changes in the intensity of absorption bands. The UV absorption spectra of BTL and Zn–PPHNL also confirm complex formation, as shown by the increased absorbance of the Zn–PPHNL complex (0.1) compared to the extracted tea solution alone (0.01). According to X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, the Zn–PPHNL complex is amorphous, and the PEO composite becomes increasingly amorphous as the concentration of Zn–PPHNL increases. Moreover, morphological studies using an optical microscope (OM) show that the size of spherulites, attributed to the crystalline phase, decreases significantly with increasing concentrations of Zn–PPHNL in the PEO polymer matrix. The optical properties of the PEO:Zn–PPHNL films were studied extensively using UV–Visible spectroscopy. The optical band gap (Eg) was calculated by analyzing dielectric loss and found to decrease from 5.5 eV to 0.85 eV as Zn–PPHNL concentration increased. Tauc's method was used to identify the nature of electronic transitions in the films. The influence of crystallinity and morphology on these transitions was discussed, along with fundamental optical dielectric functions used to determine key parameters. Finally, electron transitions were interpreted from the perspective of quantum transport.
