Vitamin D deficiency is recognized as a pandemic and the major cause of vitamin D deficiency is the lack of sun exposure and limited dietary source of vitamin D. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the prevalence of deficiency and sufficiency among sample of secondary female students in the middle governorate of the Gaza strip, Palestine. Methodology: A cross-sectional study with concurrent measurement of dietary, lifestyle and anthropometric exposures as well as 25 (OH) D level, Hemoglobin level and ionized calcium level were performed. The study was done among 100 of adolescents aged between 15 and 18 years among girls of secondary schools in the middle zone of Gaza during the academic year 2016/2017. Results: The prevalence of Vitamin D deficiency, insufficiency, and sufficiency were 59, 8and 33% respectively. While the ionized calcium deficiency was 68% of the participates suffering from deficiency, 49% of the sample is anemic. In the current study, there is a positive significant relationship between serum 25 (OH) D level and serum ionized calcium, and there is also a significant positive relationship between 25 (OH) D and hemoglobin serum levels. There is a significant positive relationship between age at the first menstruation (menarche) and serum 25 (OH) D level. Conclusion: Subclinical Vitamin D deficiency is commonly undiagnosed and is unknown as epidemic among adolescent girls in the Gaza Strip.
