Title: Effects of some plants essential oils on Enterococcus faecalis responsible forinfections from dental origin.AbstractPersistent endodontic infections are among global problems in dentistry. Only some pathogens are responsible forendodontic treatment failure, in which E. faecalis is the etiological agent. In order to propose alternative irrigationsolutions against persistent endodontic infections, 12 essential oils were evaluated towards clinical and referencestains of E. faecalis. Among studied essential oils, six oils have showed high antimicrobial activity against E. faecalisat planktonic and biofilm state, especially those of T. capitata, O. glandulosum, T. lanceolatus, A. verticillata,C. munbyi, and L. multifida with interesting MICs, MBICs and MBECs values, which doesn’t exceed 0,25%, 0,75%and 3%, respectively. The Thymus lanceolatus irrigation solution has showed a good eradication in vitro againstE. faecalis biofilm with only 1.25% for 30 seconds of contact, compared to solution of C. munbyi essential oil. However in vivo, a total disinfection of dental roots was obtained by irrigation solution based on T. lanceolatus at1%.Keywords: essential oils; persistent endodontic infections; Enterococcus faecalis; irrigation solution.
