Sonographic Assessment of Placental Grading Correlation to Gestational Age

This is crossectional descriptive study done in Khartoum state from August
to Octobor 2016 to assess the placental grading correlation to gestational
age. The proplem of study that was maturation of the placenta before
36 week is assign of pregnancy complication.. the aim of study to
asses placenta grading in correlate to gestional age ,A sample was
101 pregnant women from 12-40 week gestational scan by ultrasound ,the
data collected by data collection sheet then analyzed by statistical package
for social science . The study found that The most common pregnant
women age was (47.5%) between 20 and 30 years, and (1%) more than
40years, (24.8%) had primegravida , (51.5%) had gravity between(1- 5) ,
(23.8%) more than 5. (33.7%) nilliparous, (51.5%) had parity between(1-5) ,
(14.9%) more than 5. (14.9%) had placental grade 0, (33.7%) had placental
grade1, (49.5%) had placental grade2, and (2%) pregnant women had
placental grade3.the fetal gestational age (15.8%) between 12-18 weeks ,
(37.6%)between 19-29weeks, (45.5%) between 29 -39weeks, and only
about (1%) had40 week pregnancy. (43.6%) had anterior upper and
(39.6%) had posterior upper placental and (16.8%) had fundal placenta.
The study found the appearance of the placenta on ultrasound examination
changes with advancing gestational age. Postive significant statistically
Correlation between placental grading and Gestational age(r= +0.895 ).
The study concluded that there is positive statistically significant correlation
between placenta grading and gestational age .
The study recommended that further studies with larger sample volume to
correlate between placenta grading and gestational age , to correlate between
placenta grading and gravity ,parity .
