Research-based studies on the behavioral approach to leadership competencies and its influence on employee and organizational performance in the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE’s) oil and gas sector are limited. Therefore, the greatest value of this research lies in its ability to identify key variables that play a significant role in helping organizations perform effectively. The purpose of the research is to ascertain leadership competencies and its influence on employee and organizational performance in the UAE’s oil and gas sector. To attain this purpose, the research focuses on achieving several objectives: (a) to explore the general perceptions about the determinants of organizational performance; (b) to examine the factorsthat influence organizational performance; (c) to construct a conceptual framework from the relevant literature to identify the determinants that influence organizational performance in the oil and gas sector in the UAE; (d) to propose a model of the suggested framework for leaders; (e) to make recommendations regarding how organizational performance can best be enhanced in the oil and gas sector in the UAE; and (f) to use the research findings to recommend areas in need of further esearch. As part of the research process, the researcher had to develop a conceptual framework from the current literature. This was achieved by reviewing the existing literature on behavioral approach to leadership competencies and its influence on employee and organizational performance and develop a framework that is beneficial for leaders within the oil and gas sectorin the UAE. This research undertakes a systematic review of articles on the factors that influence organizational performance. The aim of this systematic review is to collect and summarize all empirical evidence from the literature that fits the context of this study. From the initial literature review, it has been possible to develop a framework for the study. This framework effectively illustrates the roles of cognitive, emotional and social intelligence in leadership competencies, which in turn influence both employee performance and organizational performance. The developed framework was based on empirical investigation to determine whether (and the extent to which) it is applicable to the oil and gas sector in the UAE. This was done using a fully structured questionnaire on 606 first, middle and top managerial level leaders of 17 companies in the UAE oil and gas sector. The data for the study was analyzed using quantitative methods. Leadership competencies were measured using the 24 -item leadership competencies questionnaire developed by Carmeli and Tishler (2006). The instrument used was categorized into three sections that measure each of the following; social, emotional and cognitive intelligence competencies. Employee performance was measured by a questionnaire developed by D’netto et al. (2008) which incorporated 14 skill sets that are crucial in anemployee’s performance. Organizational performance was measured using a questionnaire developed by Huselid and Becker (1996). The findings revealed that leadership competencies were statistically and significantly related to employee performance and that this positive correlation impacts organizational performance. Furthermore, social, emotional and cognitive intelligence competencies have a significant effect on forming leadership competencies.

The study investigates the simple dehydrogenation of n-butane over mono (Cr or V) and bimetal (Cr-V) loaded MCM-41 catalysts. Wet impregnation technique was used, where the metal content maintained around 4wt.%. The unique properties of bimetal supported catalysts were evaluated by means of XRD, N2 adsorption, pyridine FT-IR, Raman spectroscopy, SEM-EDX, temperature programmed analysis (H2-TPR, NH3-TPD, CO2-TPD). The catalytic evaluation shows that Cr content of 1.2wt% and V content of 2.8wt% over MCM-41 designated as 1.2Cr2.8V/M-41 exhibited the highest butane conversion of 20.1% and butenes selectivity of 88.5% at 600 °C. In the presence of CO2, the stability of 1.2Cr2.8V/M-41catalyst was quite improved. The improved performance of bimetal catalysts can be correlated to synergetic effect of uniformly dispersed Cr-V-O mixed oxides over MCM-41, high reducibility and surface acidity. Oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane was tested using CO2 as a mild oxidant over bimetallic Cr-V supported catalysts (MCM-41, ZSM-5, MCM-22 and mesoZSM-5). The metal content of Cr and V was maintained around 1.2wt.% and 2.8wt.% for the catalytic test in packed bed reactor at different temperatures (525-600°C) for 180 min. 1.2Cr2.8V/MCM-41 and 1.2Cr2.8V/ZSM-5 exhibited maximum conversion of 14 % and 13.1%, respectively at 10 min and 600 °C. Significantly, high butenes selectivity was observed over MCM-41 (86.27%) than ZSM-5 support (58.1%). The mesoporousity in ZSM-5 had a negative impact on conversion level (7.1%) but improved the butenes selectivity slightly. 1.2Cr2.8V/M-22 showed the highest cracking ability leading to overall reduced butenes selectivity (57.9%). The study shows that over all catalysts, n-butane conversion is independent of CO2 conversion. 1.2Cr2.8V/M-22 showed highest CO2 conversion in the range 2.35-2.2% between 525-550oC. The kinetics of n-butane dehydrogenation over 1.2Cr2.8V/M-41 catalyst was studied. The models were developed based on the catalyst tests carried out in a fixed bed reactor at reaction temperature varied from 525-575°C. Based on the experimental observations, power law type models were formulated and parameters were estimated by fitting the experimental data implemented in MATLAB.

The ability to support multiple communication standards by mobile devices has become a necessity with the unceasing evolution of wireless technologies. Furthermore, the growing wish of saving fabrication cost and achieving smaller form factor has made high level of integration become more and more important. At present, multiple radios operate at predefined sets of modulation schemes, frequency bands, bandwidths, and output power levels in order to accommodate the existing wireless technologies such as 3G/LTE, WLAN, or Bluetooth. This results in high component counts and increased cost. In order to tackle these issues and make the radio solution reconfigurable, the Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) along with its main constituent, the power amplifier (PA) has to become more flexible by supporting different existing technologies, coping with different future user-case scenarios, while most importantly preserving the handset's battery life. Moreover, achieving a single-chip radio solution is also vital, especially with the bottleneck formed by the PA as a result of its poor compatibility with modern Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) technology as well as its low average power efficiency. This research addresses these issues by presenting a highly efficient and linear CMOS transmitter for wireless communications. A novel modulation scheme capable of driving highly efficient switched-mode power amplifiers (SMPA) was used. In addition, the design, analysis and implementation of a CMOS PA that is amenable to the proposed scheme will be discussed. A modified current mode class-D, more generally known as inverse class-D (or class-D -1 ) PA architecture has been proposed and realized in 65 nm CMOS technology. The designed PA yielded a record peak drain efficiency of 78.5% while delivering an output power of ~1W at 1 GHz frequency. For the best of our knowledge, this is the first CMOS PA delivering 1.52 W (31.82 dBm) to the load antenna with the given efficiency. Moreover, to lend satisfactory amplitude to the incoming modulated signals to drive the output stage, design of a high speed buffer (driver) in CMOS has also been undertaken. Finally, an output matching network along with a bandpass filter has been designed to ensure linearity is achieved while satisfying the spectral emission mask for WLAN 802.11a and 4G LTE standards.
