الملخص

This study focuses on the effects of extracts of peppermint harvested from two study areas in Algeria namely (Mostaganem and Naama on the microbial species Candida albicans responsible for candidiasis in infants and women with urogenital infections. The extracts of the plant were obtained by maceration of the plant in aqueous solutions with solvents with different polarities (hexane, methanol, ethanol, and water) followed by evaporation under vacuum. The experimental measurements concerned: the growth test, the disk diffusion test, the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum fungicidal concentration (CMF).All of the extracts, in particular Naama, prepared at severe levels of 80 and 100%, revealed fungicidal effects on Candida albicans. These antifungal effects were near or better than the standard antifungal used in the study (5-Flurocytosine).
