- The rhizospheric bacteria resistance of: Pseudomonas putida and Burkholderia fungorum, to Cd, Zn and Cu was studied using the wells metal diffusion method on SLP solid medium and inhibition zones was observed. Both strains showed a high minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) which (100 mg/L, 400 mg/L, 300 mg/L) with P. putida Pp01 strain and (100 mg/L, 1000mg/L, 500 mg/L) with B. fungorum Bf01 strain for Cu, Cd and Zn respectively. The same order of toxicity was therefore noted for both strains: Cu > Zn > Cd. As a result, it was assumed in this work that B. fungorum had better resistance to these three metals and was consequently chosen for the metal removal study. The monitoring kinetics of growth was followed in SLP liquid medium added with increasing concentrations of metals. Metals removed by B. fungorum was analyzed by Atomic Absorption Spectrometry in the supernatant after centrifugation for 15 min at 15000 rpm. The results showed that B. fungorum exhibited a high affinity for Cd, Zn and Cu removal. The elimination began dice the early hours of bacteria contact with the metal during the exponential growth phase. The removal majority is made during the exponential growth phase and when she reached the plateau she was almost 90% for the three metals. Both strains had shown a high resistance degree to all three metals studied, especially cadmium (a highly toxic metal) with Burkhlderia fungorum, which present an excellent biological tool for heavy metals bioremediation because of its efficiency, reliability and low cost.
