الملخص

Blue Nile state area is generally rich in vegetation cover due to its location in the dry and wet Savanna belt. The overall objectives of the study intend to identify the effect of agricultural area and wood consumptions, and rainfall in the forest cover in the period (1984 – 2003). The study was based on the secondary data which were collected from many sources. Descriptive analysis and econometric analysis were used to analyze the data through course of the study. The study found the expansion of agricultural area at expense of virgin forest and wood consumption in (1984 to 2003) are among the main factors affecting or causing forest cover change and deforestation in Blue Nile State. Displacement, production of Sudan oil and war and conflicts led to recovery of forestry cover by 5.1% in (1993-2003). The study recommended: -Organization between relevant institutions (Forestry, Agriculture, Environment). -Up keep of 5% - 10% of shelterbelt around projects. -Satisfaction of people needs for forest products from reserve forests. -Promote the use of stone or bricks fire with fossil fuel for building. -Maintain strong forest extension services. -Improvement of range lands. -Co-operation with regional countries.
