Background: Pregnancy is a natural process characterizedby physiological changes, including fluctuating hormones.These changes may increase susceptibility to oral infectionssuch as periodontal disease and hinder the body’s ability torepair and maintain soft tissues within the mouth. Preventionof oral and dental problems and their complications inpregnancy period is possible through appropriate knowledge,attitude and behavior of pregnant womenDesign: A cross sectional hospital-based studySetting: Omdurman maternity hospitalObjectives: To study the oral health status, knowledge,attitude, and practice among pregnant women in Omdurmanmaternity hospitalMethods: Four hundred and twenty (420) pregnant womenwere interviewed and clinically examined during eight weeks,Please purchase PDFcamp Printer on http://www.verypdf.com/ to remove this watermark.when they were attending the Omdurman maternity hospitalwhich is the largest maternity hospital in Sudan for prenatalcare.Results: The results showed that 11.7% of women had highknowledge, 81.9% had average knowledge and 6.4% had lowknowledge about oral health. 21.2% of the sample hadpositive attitude towards oral health during pregnancy, and78.8% had negative attitude. 0.24% had good oral healthpractice, 33.8% had average practice, and 65.9% had bad oralhealth practice. Chi-square test showed no relationshipbetween knowledge and oral health practice (P=0.896),knowledge and attitude (P=0.639), and also there is norelationship between attitude and practice (P=0.173).However, there is a significant relationship between the scoreof knowledge and educational level (P=0.002), and also thereis significant relationship between educational level andpractice (P=0.003), but there is no significant relationshipbetween educational level and attitude of the women(P=0.59). There is no significant relationship betweendifferent age groups and oral health practice
