Equine reproduction requires a great deal of rigor in the management of the mare in order to fulfill theobjective of obtaining a foal per year and at the earliest in the year. It is therefore essential to control amaximum of factors influencing fertility.The veterinarian must be able to perform gynecological monitoring at each key moment during thereproductive life of the mare in order to detect the conditions that can alter reproductive performance and treatquickly, to know the optimal time to inseminate the mare, then to diagnose pregnancy and to monitor itsprogress.The veterinarian must also be able to advise the breeder as much as possible on the management ofthe mare with regard to its diet and environment, to optimize the mare's fertility, to bring it in good health forreproduction and to maintain its gestation.
