الملخص
Thyroid disorders and diabetes mellitus are the two most common endocrinopathies encountered in practice. Both conditions frequently coexist and the prevalence of thyroid dysfunction in patients with diabetes is higher than in general population. The general objective Association between Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and Hyperthyroidism. This is Case control hospital based study include 100 case have only Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and 100 cases have only hyperthyroidisms and 100 case control for thyroid and diabetic at Omdurman Military hospital. A total of 300 patients had been enrolled in this study. The study found that thyroid disorders and Diabetes Mellitus were significantly higher in female more than male while it was normal among control group. Level of glucose In fasting blood glucose, 2hour post prandial, glycated hemoglobin A1c was high among the diabetic group , while glycated hemoglobin A1c results In hyperthyroid (57%) of them had glycated hemoglobin A1c more than 6.0% , all control group had less than 6.0% of glycated hemoglobin A1c with (p value =.000) which reveal strong statistical association. Thyroid level in the Diabetes Mellitus group was as follow: T3 was normal in almost all of the participants, only 10.0% of them had low T3 level, while in the group of hyperthyroidisms 100% was high with (p value= .005) which showed high statistical association, in the control group T3 was normal level ( between 0.96 and 2.02) for all group. T4 results shows that in the Diabetes Mellitus group (13%) were abnormal have low level of T4, hyperthyroid group 100% was high level of T4, while 100% of control group had normal level of T4 (between 4.0-10.0) with (p value = 0.00) with significant associations. TSH results shows in Diabetes Mellitus group abnormal results in 29% had TSH level more than 6.2, 100% of hyperthyroid group had TSH level less than 0.4, while 100% of control group had TSH level (between 0.4 – 6.2). With significant statistically association (p value= 0.00). The prevalence of thyroid dysfunction hypothyroidisms in Diabetes Mellitus patients was (11%) which was further found to be more in females. There is a strong statistical association between the levels of glucose in patients who have hyperthyroidisms, while there is no significant statistically association between the levels of thyroid hormone in patients who have Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
