The social studies course of the third basic grade in Syria seeks at developing the main skills that help the learner to organize his information . Such as the Creative thinking and decision making . In addition to acquisition of desired attitudes and having a comprehensive vision about the subjects that relate his life and society , and also he should understand that there are several aspects for each case . This purpose requires developing lateral thinking , which the sixth hats strategy achieves . It is considered on important and effective tool , where thinking is divided into six types and each type is symbolized by a specific coloured hat . It is a fact that depending on repeated typed answers far from any innovation indicates at a week creative thinking by those students . In addition , their adopting to the random choice as a method without any mental judgment , or without any scientific method to take the right decision , all these are indicators to weakness of those skills , though creative thinking skills and decision-making are included in the social studies course of that grade , the cause of this weakness may go back to the traditional methods of teaching . In the light of previous facts , the problem of the research is : What is the effect of the six hats method in developing creative thinking , decision –making , and social studies achievement of the third basic graders in Lattakia city ? The importance of the research : This research stems its importance from the followings :-It provides practical lessons of the social studies subject of the third basic grade according to the six hats method. -It provides a vision of the creative thinking skill level of the third basic graders, and it provides the way to develop those skills by using methods which develop the creative thinking -It provides teachers with a test of decision –making skill , in order to define its level for students and in order to develop it . The innovation of the subject and the few previous studies at the basic learning stage . -It may provide opportunities for other studies by using the six hats method at other grades and subjects. The aims of the search :This research aims at : -Discovery the effect of using the six hats method on developing the creative thinking skills (fluency , flexibility , originality ,total creativeness) of the third basic graders -Discovery the effect of using the six hats method on developing the decision –making skills (defining the problem , generating the substitutes , choosing the best substitute , making the whole decision) of the third basic graders . -Discovery the effect of using the six hats method on the social studies achievement (the low levels , the high levels , the total achievement) of the third basic graders .The low and high levels indicate to the achievement test questions which have been categorized according to Bloom. The questions of the research :This research answer the following questions : What is the effect of six hats method on developing the creative thinking skills(fluency ,flexibility , originality , total creativity of the third basic graders ?What is the : effect of six hats method on developing the decision-making skills (defining the problem, generating the substitutes , choosing the best substitutes Making the total decision of the third basic graders What is the effect of six hats method on the social studies achievement (the low levels , the high levels , the total achievement) of the third basic graders ? The hypotheses of the research : the hypotheses of the research are tested They are listed at the level of (a= 0.05) There is no statistical significant difference between the mean scores of the control and experimental groups in the post –application of the creative thinking skills test (fluency , flexibility , originality total creativity)-There is no statistical significant difference between the mean scores of the students of the control and experimental groups in the post –application of the decision-making skills (defining the problem , generating the substitutes choosing the best substitute , the total creativity -There is no statistical significant difference in the mean scores of students of the control and experimental groups in the post application of the achievement test according to ( the low levels , high levels , the total achievement). The Methodology of the research and its sample : The current research depended on the semi-empirical method depending on choosing experimental and control groups , the sample was chosen of (52) male and female students from Jafar Al Sadek School in Lattakia The tools of the research :The research depending on the following tools : -Torrance test of the creative thinking (the picture of ...)-Decision –making test (prepared by the researcher )-Achievement test (prepared by the researcher )The limits of the research :The research depended on the following limits : -The human limits : A target sample consisted of two sections of the third basic graders-The place limits : the research was applied at Jafar Al Sadek School (the second) in Lattakia city. The time limits :The second term of the academic year (2013-2014)The objective and scientific limits : They were as follows : -The third and the fourth units of the social studies book of the third basic grade , they are titled as : "serves in my country " and "the work and its importance" -Creative thinking skills (Fluency , Flexibility , originality, total creativity -Decision –making skills (defining the problem generating substitutes , choosing the best substitute , taking the total decision ) -The two teaching methods (the six hats method , the traditional method)Procedures of the research : -Reading the educational literature , and the previous studies that . deal with the variables of the research . -Choosing the educational content -Designing the educational program according to the six hats method. Preparing the decision-making test and proving its Validity and reliability. -Preparing the achievement test and proving its validity and reliability-Getting Torrance test the picture .....(A) and Knowing how to apply and correct it . Experimenting the research tools on a pilot sample of the third basic graders in order to develop and evaluate them .-Applying the experiment which includes the followings: -choosing the research sample , and dividing it randomly into two groups experimental and control .-Applying the pre-tests in order to prove that groups are equal . Teaching the experimental group by using the six hats methods by the researcher , and teaching the control group by using the traditional method by the original teacher . -Applying the post-tests -Statistical dealing of the data and discussing the results . -providing suggestions variables of the research : -the independent variables :The six hats method ,and the traditional method. -The depended variables : -The creative thinking skills (Fluency , Flexibility , originality , the total relativity)-The decision-making skills (defining the problem, generating the substitutes , choosing the best substitute, the total decision –making ) -The achievement (the low levels , the high levels , the total ( achievement).Results of the research: The research results were as follows : -There is a statistical significant difference between the mean –scores of students of the experimental and control groups in the test of creative thinking skills (Fluency , Flexibility , total creativity) in favor of the experimental groups , whereas there is no statistical significant difference concerning the skill of (originality ). -There is a statistical significant difference between the mean scores of students of the experimental and control groups in the test of decision –making skills (defining the problem , generating the substitutes , total decision –making ) in favor of the experimental group , whereas there is no statistical significant difference according to the skill of ( choosing the best substitute). -There is a statistical significant difference between the mean scores of students of the experimental and control groups in the post-test achievement (the low levels , the high levels , the total achievement) in favor of the experimental groups. The Suggestions of the research : In the light of the research results , The following suggestions are provided :-Using the six hats method in teaching the social studies course in the first cycle of the basic learning -Adopting the six hats method as a main model in designing the curriculum , by designing a teaching unit , or a group of lessons according to this method at different grades and subjects of the first cycle of the basic learning . -Depending on this method as general methodology at the educational faculties . -Conducting similar studies to the current study concerning other subjects and other grades.
