- Biometric data areoften transmitted or stored, mainly for identity verification purposes. It is therefore necessary to protect these data against the various attacks thatmay occur during the transmission andstorage operations. Biometric watermarking has been proven to be an attractive solution for securing shared documents. Several biometric data protection methods have been proposed in the literature. However, efforts are expected to improve their reliability. These operations of watermarking have limitations in terms of data security because of the frequent and numerous attacks they may incur. It is particularly important to develop a solution of watermarking reinforcement while preserving biometric modalities integrity. One of the most crucial tasks in securing biometric data is integrity preservation. Considering the framework of an identity verification application based on the fingerprint biometric watermarking, we propose in this thesis solutions to this problem that are different but complementary. The first solution consists in the embedding domain selection. Indeed, for the choice of the watermarking technique ensuring a better preservation of data integrity, we have carried out a comparative study on the influence of the choice of the insertion domain on the performances of invisibility, robustness, and authentication. As an application of the best inserting domain, we have proposed a fingerprint watermarking by the characteristics of the face obtained by Gabor filtering and a reduction in the discriminating dimensionality of the characteristic vectors realized by DLDA. In the second solution, we have shown that biometric watermarking can improve the verification performance by presenting watermarking as a new multimodal biometrics fusion technique. This input is validated on the fingerprint, the palm print, and the face.In the third solution, we have put forward a new reinforcement watermarking approach usinga two-level combination of watermarking\ watermarking. At the first level, the first watermark generation and insertion in the host imageare ensured. At the second level, we insert the secured image in the host imageusing the same watermarking algorithm. We show that the suggested method can also be explored in identity verification while offering a good compromise between the security level, the storage space and the complexity. After that, we have proposed validating and integrating the method of securing biometric data in an access control device application based on multimodal biometric watermarking and RFID technology. This method is explored in physical access control using a smart card.
