الملخص

This study was carried out to identify Enterobacteria and rotavirus typeA in children suffering from diarrhoea in Khartoum state (Khartoum andKhartoum North) . Sixty samples of diarrhoeal stool were collectedduring the period from May to June 2006 from 60 children aged 4 months -5 years suffering from diarrhoea .Isolated bacteria were identified on the basis of their cultural andbiochemical characteristics and included the following species : Escherichiacoli , Salmonella typhi from 5 specimens , S. paratyphi from 5 specimens ,S. typhimurium from 4 specimens , shigella dysenteriae from one specimen, Sh. flexneri from 2 specimens , Sh.boydii from one specimen , Proteusvulgaris from 2 specimens , Klebsiella pneumonia from 4 specimens , K.rhinoschermatis from 2 specimens and Pseudomonas aerugenosa from 6specimens .Using direct Enzyme linked immuno sorbant assay ( ELISA) rotavirustype A was detected in five samples associated with E. coli in 3 samples andwith shigella boydii ( in one specimen ) and Pseudomonas aerugenosa ( inone specimen ).The susceptibility of isolated bacteria to some antibiotics using the multidisk method was variable.
