الملخص
Gumbail tree is of wide distribution in forests of Sudan, and has many important uses. The aim of this work was to evaluate some phytochemical and biotechnological tests for Gumbial (Cordia africana) and its uses in termite management. The phytochemical evaluation involve the separation of the active ingredients from the leaves, barks and roots extracts to control termites, whereas the biotechnological evaluation involve the utilization of plant tissue culture techniques for multiple shoot formation and callus induction from seedlings of Zalingei in MS medium supplemented with various concentrations individually or in combinations of growth regulators and also it involve the genetic diversity (genetic similarity) of Gumbail tree from four different regions of Sudan. The best response for termite control was by using leaves-ethyl acetate extract. The analysis of chromatography showed ten bands. Dursban was also used as standard in the termite management and it resulted in mean of (0% weight loss) at 2 ppm comparing to the above ten bands. The results showed that band number (1) was more efficient (mean of 3% weight loss) at the same concentration than the other bands. The active ingredients were detected in intact and seedling of plant samples from Zalingei and Diling, by thin layer chromatography. In cytokinins, BAP proved to be relatively more effective, with best response in number of shooting and shoot length than Kin. In auxins, the best response for callus induction was from stem explants by 2,4-D, while the best response for callus induction was from leaves explants by NAA. Genetic biodiversity for Cordia species proved that, Al-Damazin and Kas samples were genetically 77% similar, while Zalingei, Kas, Diling and Al-Damazin were 51% similar. The most important recommendation of this study was to use the active ingredients as wood-paints or pesticide to control termite.
