- The objective of this study is to test the effectiveness of duckweed (Lemna gibba) an indigenous Algerian aquatic plant for the treatment of aquatic systems loaded with metallic pollutants such as humic acid AH and metyhlene blue. First, a characterization of the biosorbent was performed, one structural by X-ray fluorescence and the other spectral by infrared Fourier transform. Second, the study of the biosorption of AH and BM was carried out. To do this, the effect of the contact time, the initial concentration of contaminants and the dose of the biosorbent on the phenomenon of biosorption was determined. The biosorption kinetics were verified by testing several kinetic models to determine the mechanism of biosorption. It was determined that the biosorption system undoubtedly follows a kinetic law of order 2 for the BM taking into account the value of the correlation coefficient R² which is 0.9968.The modeling of the experimental results according Langmuir adsorption model and Freundlich showed globally that the both are not satisfactory. For that, another one will have to be tested.
