ترجمة الملخص

The present study dealt with the religious dimension in international relations following the cold war eraby testing the role of religion in the September 11, 2001 events and the debates raised around thereasons behind the comeback of the sacred religious onto the international relations agenda; whichinclude the international economy, global disputes, wars, and the arrangements made by the UnitedNations to organize the international community...etc.. The study focused primarily on the crises of thenation ‫ ـ‬state. The latter is considered a basic unit in the international order, its failure to control itsborders has led the religious groups and movements to play an essential alternative role in theinternational arena, hence snatching the state’s role in international relations, and by so doing thesegroups which have religious reference worked to impose their visions and mobilize and reactivatereligious affiliations internationally through practicing violence. The study has examined the role of bothfundamentalist faiths: conservative Christianity in the US and the radical Islamist (Qaeda) and their rolein the events of Sep. 11, as a paramount feature of the comeback of a sacred faith to affectinternational relations and as a clear sign of the weakness of the nation ‐stateThe study aimed at restoring consideration for the cultural factors, values, ideas, mental concepts andreligion in understanding and analysis of international relations after they were being undermined dueto the dominance of the material, realistic trend in understanding the dynamics of international politics.The study utilized the comparative approach which made it possible to study and track the phenomenaof the ascendance of both fundamentalist Christianity and Islam and the confrontation between themup to the 9/11 events. Given that the traditional concepts in international relations may preclude the understanding ofpolitical transformations in the contemporary world, a single tool is no longer sufficient to describe thegrowing complexity in a world with increasing problems and tensions, and a little possibility tounderstand it. Therefore, the study attempted to create a close cooperation between a cluster of socialsciences and disciplines in order to enrich a comprehensive understanding of the post cold war era. Thestudy employed some concepts of sociology, such as exoduses, organic solidarity, and some concepts ofgeography like cultural boundaries and spaces so that the study can at last deduct transformations ininternational relations with the ascend of religions.The study concluded that factors related to religion, values and ideas are contributing significantly to ourunderstanding of the current complexities of international relations. As a result there is a need to buildanalytical perspectives and networks that seek the assistance of other sciences in order to understandcurrent transformations and forecasting their directions. The study also concluded that the role of thenation‐ state has recessed in favor of the religious and identity groups , a matter which will lead toinstability in international order due to the ability of these groups to use indiscriminate violence to givevoice to their conflicting visions and views.
