The impact of IWB on the biology learning process: the case of Notre Dame de Louaize School

The purpose of this project is based on different subjects. First, it investigates students' behavior towards the use of interactive whiteboard in the classroom. Second, it focuses on the impact of interactive whiteboard on students' grade. The main objective is to improve the teaching-learning process in the College of Notre Dame de Louaize School with the use of technology, specifically the IWB.Design/Methodology/Approach: Both IWB and regular whiteboard were used based on an ABAB design. A questionnaire was completed by 150 students whose age range between 1 1 and 13 years old. The questions focused on the satisfaction, interaction, usage, perception, motivation, and attitude of students towards the IWB. Answers of the questionnaire were inserted in SPSS. Two tests were applied to evaluate the improvement in grades for students based in IWB. One test was performed when lessons were given with the IWB and the second test without the presence of an IWB during explanation. To be able to answer all the research questions related to the IWB, Wilcoxon signed-rank test, Pearson's Chi Square test, paired sample t-test, and a regression analysis were performed.Findings: Findings obtained suggest that the interactive whiteboard has a positive influence on student's behavior, satisfaction, perception of learning, motivation and interaction. In addition, students' grades highly improved after the use of IWB suggesting its beneficial effect on students.Research Limitations: The study was conducted only on one group of students (11-13years old) as well as one school; therefore results may not be generalized for all schools and all students in Lebanon.Practical Implications: By demonstrating the usefulness of IWB and its positive effect on students, this paper advocates the use of technology in school. This research attempts to enlighten school principals and teachers about the importance of having an IWB in each classroom and encourage them to teach their lessons using this technological tool.
