الملخص
Insecta (Hexapoda)is the largest group of arthropods with over a million described species. They are found in almost all environments on earth. Several species live in different parts of the houses; some of them are considered to be disease vectors. The objectives of the present work are identifying the species, investigating their population occurrence throughout the year and trying to relate their presence with the common diseases in the locality. Through surveying 50 randomly selected houses located in the Eastern Gezira administrative Locality (Elsharafa, Dallaouat and GauzAlahamda);between 2015-2019using common collection methods, a total of 17152insects were collected from yards, bedrooms, kitchen and bathrooms. The results revealed that these specimens representing 22 insects orders,i.e. Collembola, Archaeognatha,Thysanura,Diplura, Ephemeroptera, Dermaptera, Phasmatodea, Psocoptera, Embioptera, Odonata, Isoptera, Blattodea, Mantodea, Orthoptera, Phthiraptera, Homoptera, Hemiptera, Neuroptera, Coleoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera, and Lepidoptera. Diptera had the highest abundance (27.4%), followed by the Hymenoptera (14.8%),Blattodea(11.5%) and Phasmatodea(0.01%) showed minimum abundance in the study area. Coleoptera was represented by more families (22% of the total families), compared to other orders. The widespread presence of dipterans in the study area suggest that they could be playing a major role in diseases transmission, e.g. malaria (70.7%), typhoid (12.5%) and dysentery (2.1 %.),through study period. A flexible taxonomic key for the insects of the locality was developed to facilitate the process of identification as a step forward for a comprehensive Gezira state key.
