- Mineral waters and spring waters have experienced remarkable growth in Algeria like in the rest of the world, with an annual consumption of 60 l/capita/year. However, many do not distinguish between these types of water, as the only concern for the customer seems to be that it comes in bottle form, giving the illusion that it is somehow a mystical water free from any form of contamination. The present work consists in carrying out a comparative study of the physicochemical quality of bottled natural mineral waters marketed in Algeria, as well as trying to understand the reason which pushes consumers to migrate from the tap to the bottle. The results obtained on mineral waters and some spring waters according to the Stiff diagram and the Piper diagram have revealed that most groundwater in Algeria is of a bicarbonate-calcic nature with some being sulphate-calcic waters.
