In this study, we evaluated the in vitro antifungal activity of essential oils of "Thymus capitates L." and "Origanum floribundum Munby", two spontaneous plants endemic to the Guelma region, against four clinical strains of Aspergillus fumigates. In the present work, two techniques were used, the M38-A method or broth microdilution test described by CLSI and the method. The essential oils were obtained by the hydrodistillation method in a Cleverer type apparatus from the leaves and flowering tops, and provided a significant average yield of 2.52% for oregano and 1.89% for thyme. For the results obtained by the microdilution method, the essential oil of oregano presented MIC and MFC values between 0.749 and 8.386 μg/ml. In addition, thyme essential oil showed MIC and MFC values between 0.899 and 2.097 μg/ml. The evaluation of the antifungal activity of the volatile phase of these essential oils, showed that the essential oils of oregano and thyme are more active in the vapour phase than in direct contact, with MIC values (0. 115 μg/ml of air for oregano and 0.029 to 0.115 μg/ml of air for thyme) and CMF values (0.230 to 0.460 μg/ml of air for oregano and 0.115 to 0.460 μg/ml of air for thyme). It is evident that thyme essential oil is more fungistatic and fungicidal than oregano essential oil. Based on these results, the two essential oils tested have a very good antifungal activity against the four clinical strains of Aspergillus fumigates and could present a real solution against aspergillosis especially in the fumigant form, but requires further pharmacological and toxicological studies
