الملخص

Family planning (FP) enables individuals(women and men) to plan their families and space their children. The umbrella of FP encompasses a range of services, including: birth spacing through (safety period, condom, lactation, oral combined pills, injectable methods, implant and tudal ligation), provision of FP methods, infertility diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and reproductive health education. This study was conducted to assess the level of knowledge attitude and practice(KAP) among married women in reproductive peroid in Arkaweet area, wad Medani City, Gezira state , Sudan. It is cross sectional community based study. 400 women in reproductive period were interviewed using structured questionnaire .The results of this study reveal that:(53.5%) of females were less than 34years old, (34%) were housewives, (39%) of them were graduated and (17.8%) their education is primary education, (46%) of them were married for more than 9 years, and (76%) of them were having 3 children or less. This study revealed that (97%) of the respondent knew about family planning methods, the most known method was oral contraceptive pills(95.5%) followed by Intra Uterine Contraceptive Device (87.3%) and implant (85%). The most common source of knowledge family and friends (41.8%). It also revealed that (68.5%) of the respondents had positive attitudes towards family planning methods. (64.8%) of the respondents were currently using contraceptive methods. Commonly used methods was contraceptive pill (56.5%).It also revealed that the main reason of non-using of FP methods was husband disagreement (43.2%) followed by the desire to have more children (36.8%).The study concluded that there is a high level of knowledge about family planning methods but the utilization below the optimal level. The study recommends more health education program to be targeted to improve and maintain the practice and provision of FP methods in all health facilities.
