The Effectiveness of Videotaped Role-play Strategy in Improving Reading Comprehension and Speaking Skills in English for 8th Graders in Gaza Governorate

الملخص

This study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of videotaped role-play strategy in improving English reading comprehension and speaking skills for 8th graders in Gaza governorates. The researcher adopted the quasi experimental approach where a pre-post design is coducted for two independent groups.The researcher purposively chose a representative sample of (64) eighth graders from Mustafa Hafez Prep girls' school in the academic year 2020/2021.The students were divided into two equivalent control and experimental groups, each of which consisted of (32) students. The regular method was used with the control group while the videotaped role-play strategy was used in teaching the experimental one.The instruments of the study were: a reading comprehension test (Pre & Post), and a speaking skills test.The results of the study revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the mean scores of the experimental and control group in the post-application of reading comprehension and speaking skills test in the 8th graders in favor of the experimental group due to adopting of videotaped role-play strategy. Moreover, the results indicated that the effect size of employing a videotaped role-playing strategy in improving reading comprehension and speaking skills in English was very high, and the videotaped role-playing strategy was effective.In the light of the study findings, the researcher suggested several recommendations, the most prominent of which that teacher should depend on multimedia, such as pictures and videos, in explaining English language lessons. In addition, teachers should follow an integrative approach in teaching the English language skills due to the correlation of English language skills.Keywords: effectiveness - videotaped role_play strategy - reading comprehension skills - speaking skills.الملخصهدفت الدراسة التحقق من فاعلية توظيف استراتيجية لعب الأدوار المصورة في تحسين مهارات الفهم القرائي والتحدث باللغة الانجليزية لدى طلبة الصف الثامن بمحافظة غزة، ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة استُخدم المنهج شبه التجريبي لمجموعتين مستقلتين ضابطة وتجريبية، وتكونت عينة الدراسة من (64) طالبة جرى اختيارهن قصدياً من مدرسة مصطفى حافظ الإعدادية للبنات بمحافظة غزة، وتم تقسيمهن عشوائياً إلى مجموعتين؛ الأولى ضابطة (32) طالبة درسن بطريقة التدريس العادية، والثانية تجريبية (32) طالبة درسن باستخدام استراتيجية لعب الأدوار المصورة ، وتمثلت أدوات جمع البيانات في: اختبار مهارات الفهم القرائي، واختبارمهارات التحدث . وتوصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج أهمها أنه توجد فروق ذو دلالة إحصائية بين متوسط درجات طالبات المجموعة الضابطة ومتوسط درجات طالبات المجموعة التجريبية في التطبيق البعدي لاختبار مهارات الفهم القرائي، لصالح طالبات المجموعة التجريبية، وأنه توجد فرق ذو دلالة إحصائية بين متوسط درجات طالبات المجموعة الضابطة ومتوسط درجات طالبات المجموعة التجريبية في التطبيق البعدي لاختبار مهارات التحدث، وكانت الفروق لصالح طالبات المجموعة التجريبية، كما أشارت النتائج أن حجم أثر توظيف استراتيجية لعب الأدوار المصورة كان كبيرا في تحسين مهارات الفهم القرائي ومهارات التحدث باللغة الانجليزية ً ، كما تبين أن استراتيجية لعب الأدوار المصورة تتسم بالفعالية.وفي ضوء نتائج الدراسة قدمت الباحثة عدة توصيات جاء أبرزها الاعتماد على الوسائط المتعددة كالصور والفيديو في شرح دروس اللغة الانجليزية، وأن يتبع معلمي اللغة الانجليزية المنحنى التكاملي في تدريس اللغة الانجليزية نظراً لترابط مهاراتها.الكلمات المفتاحية: فاعلية– استراتيجية- لعب الأدوار المصورة– مهارات الفهم القرائي – مهارات التحدث.
