الملخص
The adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) is gaining momentum globally as a sustainable alternative to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles (ICEVs). This study empirically examines the factors price, economic benefits, policy incentives, driving range, acceleration, charging time, and environmental values on consumer intentions to adopt EVs, and how these factors are mediated by consumer attitudes, in Bahrain. Bahrain is a country with unique economic conditions, subsidized fuel prices, and emerging EV infrastructure. The study utilizes Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to assess the direct and mediation effects. Findings indicate that policy incentives, acceleration, and environmental values have a direct positive relationship with intentions to purchase EVs, whilst partially mediated by consumer attitudes. Economic benefits, however, have an indirect effect, fully mediated by attitudes on intent to purchase EVs. Moreover, price and charging times are found to contradict prior research by proving to have positive direct effect on purchasing intentions whilst partially mediated by attitudes. Driving range was found to have no significant direct or mediating impact on overall purchasing intentions, however, results indicate a very weak direct effect. The results concluded that consumer attitudes remain an elemental mediator between the variables and intention to purchase EVs. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on EV adoption by providing insights specifically to Bahrain, a region with limited empirical research. The findings offer practical implications for policymakers, automotive manufacturers, and marketers seeking to promote EV adoption through targeted incentives, improved infrastructure, and consumer awareness campaigns. Future research may explore long-time behavioral shifts and the role of emerging technologies in shaping consumer perceptions.
