The Addition of Fenugreek Seeds to Ration On Milk Yield Composition and Kids Growth Rates of Sudanese Nubian Goats

15 Mature Sudanese Nubian goats were acquired from a local livestockmarket in Omdurman town . The criteria adopted for purchase weresimilarity as for as possible in body weight, age and stage of lactation .The goats were divided into three equal groups and assigned to threeconcentrate mixed rations with 0, 2.5and 5% inclusion of fenugreek seeds. Data on milk yield , composition and kids growth rates were monitored .The results revealed that supplementing the ration of goats by Fenugreekseed had improved the milking potential of the goats compared to thecontrol group . The group fed the higher level of fenugreek seeds (5%)out yielded the group fed on the lower level of fenugreek seeds (2.5%)the highest milk yield in the three groups was attained during the firstmonth of lactation & then declined progressively in the 2and &3rdmonths of lactations . The decline in milk production was very sharp inthe control group compared to the supplemented groups suggesting thatfenugreek seeds supplements favoured persistency of lactation , total milkyield of the supplemented groups was significantly P<0.05 higher thanthe control group. Fenugreek seed supplementation , on the other hand ,does not affect milk composition , however promotes the acceptabilityof the milk and improves its odour and flavour . the fenugreek seedsupplementation favoured positively kids growth rates . The growth ratesof the supplemented groups were significantly higher (P<0.05) than thecontrol group .
