- The melanoma is a malignant tumour developped at the expense of mélanocytes. Frightening lesion with high metastatic potential. In spite of a sunny weather in Morocco as well as in the rest of the African and magherb countries, the frequency of this tumour remains relatively weak. The purpose of our study was to determine the epidemiologic profile of the cutaneous melanoma in the area of Agadir. A descriptive retrospective study has been undertaken over a period of 8 years from 2000 to 2007, including all cases of cutaneous melanoma histologically confirmed, at the anatomo-pathology department of Hassan II hospital and private offices of dermatology and anatomopathology of Agadir. Fifty nine cases of cutaneous melanoma were listed. The annual rate was from 7,37 cases a year. The average age was 56 years and the sex ratio (H/F) of 0,9. Only one case of familial melanoma was reported. The average tumoral size was 3,37cm. The lower member was the elective seat of the tumour (61%) interesting the plantar area in 37,28% of the cases. The acral lentiginous melanoma was the most frequent anatomoclinic type (50,84%). The index of Breslow was higher than 4 mm in 59% of the cases. Concerning the series of the cutaneous melanoma at the private offices of dermatology (15 patients), the surgical excision was recommended in 87% of the cases, 13,33% of the patients profited from a palliative surgery. The auxiliary treatment was proposed in 33,33% of the cases. In Morocco, the melanoma presents epidemiologic and anatomoclinic characteristics similar to those found in the Maghrébines and African studies and contrasting with the data of the Western literature. The poor prognosis and the difficulty of assumption of responsibility of the cutaneous melanoma impose an early tracking of these tumours.
