- This research strives for the study of Iqbal’s literature to show his literary message through the issues and topics which he tackled. It confirms that the message in his literature was a humanitarian one, and that his views came from his humane tendency. This research consists of a preface and three chapters, leading to the research’s conclusion and its findings followed by the references used. The preface explains the meaning of tendency and humanitarianism in language and terminology to show the extent the extent to which tendency complies with humanitarianism without trend or doctrine, resulting in clarifying the meaning of humanitarian tendency. Then it explains the idiomatic emergence of this concept in the Western culture, and it tracks the development of its meaning, applications and multiple connotations between philosophy and literature. After that, it monitors the concept of humanitarian tendency in the Arab culture, stressing that the Arab culture includes the East, and showing the nature of humanitarian tendency in philosophy, Sufism, and literature, and then it shows how closely the presence of humanism and humanitarian literature and its strength are related to the conditions of life. Thus, it arrives at a procedural definition of humanism and humanitarian literature, where it becomes possible to monitor the loyalty of Iqbal’s literary topics to humanism and its issues.Because of the close connection between humanism and living conditions, the research found that it is necessary to show the factors which shaped Muhammad Iqbal’s humanism and its manifestations in the light of his life, which is included in the first chapter. It began with a historic stance on the Indian subcontinent conditions, the country of Iqbal, showing the political situationunder the Islamic civilization, then under the British occupation, and the cultural situation and the social status; all these things influenced the thought of Iqbal. The first chapter studied the familial influence on Iqbal, the influence of sublime humane ideas of his ancestors, the Brahmins, who converted to Islam for the love of humanity and equality, and those of his father and mother. Also, this chapter talks about Iqbal’s educational journey in India, and the high educational beginnings which he gained from this journey, as well as his educational journey in Europe, and the great impact of this journey on his thoughts and humanitarian messages. The chapter ends with his intellectual and literary production, which was the fruit of such factors which shaped Iqbal’s humanitarian personalitySince Iqbal, the writer, had great knowledge and he studied hard and read much, the multi-cultural readings definitely helped and the humanitarian meanings in his literary message. Therefore, this research preferred to show the most important cultural impacts that influenced Iqbal’s humanitarian literature, which is found in the second chapter. This chapter has divided the impacts depending on its intellectual and literary impact. The Islamic impact was among the first to teach Iqbal sublimity from what he learned from the Holy Quran and the merits of the Prophet and some Islamic figures by whom he was inspired in his literature and who became symbols in his poetry. The chapter also shows the Eastern impact, and the extent to which the personality of Jalal Eddin Al Rumi and his poetic writings influenced the literature and thought of Iqbal so that he made the former a mentor and teacher. The chapter also refers to the Sufi thought to which Iqbal objected, criticized andrefuted because it involves tempting humans with ideas that lead to weakness, apathy and the mortality. Such literary attitudes supplemented Iqbal’s humanitarian meanings creating a balance between his thoughts and the Sufi thoughts, empowering his meanings and strengthening his humanitarian views. The chapter also mentions the extent to which Iqbal benefited from the diverse readings in poetry and literature, as the meanings clearly benefited from Biddle Ghalib, Dagh, Halli, A Maari, and many others.Thischapter talks about the Western impact showing Iqbal’s admiration of the character of the German poet Goethe and the influence of his sublime literature. The research also shows the impact of Western philosophy on the Iqbal’s thoughts and especially its pioneers such as Nietzsche, Hegel and Bergson.
