ntroduction and Aims:The diabetic neuropathy is considered as a common complication ofdiabetes mellitusand the prevalence of peripheral neuropathy is about 55% in type 1 and 45% in type 2.Our research aim to indicate the role of neurologic symptom and sign scores(DNSscore,DNE score )in the early detection of diabetic neuropathy and it indicates the importance of a nerve conduction study to confirm the presence of diabetic neuropathy especially in subclinicalcases.Material and method:The study was conducted prospective way on a sample of type 2diabetes mellitus patients in Endocrinology and Neurology clinics at the University Hospital of Aleppo,where we took the medical historyand conduct clinical neurological examination ,laboratory tests and nerve conduction study.Results:The study include 100 patients (55% female ,45% male, mean age 54,3 years ). The prevalence of diabetic neuropathy was 43%.The DNS score able to predict the presence of diabetic neuropathy (sensitivity 83,7%specificity 68,4% the diagnostic accuracy of 74,1%). The DNE score also hadthe ability to predict diabetes nerve impairment (sensitivity 81,3% specificity 78,9% and the diagnostic accuracy of 76,4% )Recommendation: We recommend to do neurologic examination annually for type 2 diabetic patients to detect diabetic neuropathy,to prevent from foot ulcers .Micro albumin urea is considered as clueto prevalence of diabetic neuropathy
