Determination of Trace Elements in Gum Arabic Using x-ray Fluorescence

الملخص

This research was conducted in order to identify heavy elements for four samples of Gum Arabic. These samples are commercial Hashab Gum (Acacia senegal), pure Talha Gum (Acacia Seyal), pure Hashab Gum (Acacia Senegal) and commercial Talha Gum (Acacia Seyal). Samples have been obtained from the Omdurman market. The pure Gum samples have been requested from an official branch of the Gum Arabic Company in Khartoum. These samples were measured by x-ray fluorescence technique, is an analytical tool for the qualitative and quantitative elemental analysis. The final results were analyzed by QXAS software at laboratory of nuclear application in the Department of Physics - Faculty of Science - University of Khartoum. The results obtained showed that for pure Acacia Senegal and commercial samples the concentration (in ppm) of K was found to be 0.703 and 0.927 respectively, for Ca was found to be 5.540 and 5.690 respectively, for Fe was found to be 0.065 and 0.061 respectively, for Cu was found to be 0.004 and 0.006 respectively and for Sr was found to be 0.040 and 0.056 respectively. The results obtained showed that for pure Acacia seyal and commercial samples, the concentration (in ppm) of K was found to be 0.897 and 0.000 respectively, for Ca was found to be 7.290 and 12.600 respectively, for Fe was found to be 0.144 and 0.155 respectively, for Cu was found to be 0.006 and 0.008 respectively and for Sr was found to be 0.052 and 0.061 respectively.
