الملخص

This study aims to investigate the understanding and use of synonymsand antonyms of English language. The study aims to: help English teachersto be aware of their learners’ needs as far as synonyms and antonyms areconcerned, show English teachers importance of both relations, enrichstudents of English with proper vocabularies of synonyms and antonyms andsupport syllabus designers with selective vocabularies of both relations. Thestudy used quantitative method it was also descriptive method an analytical.The sample of the study was limited to the third year students of English incollege of languages at Sudan University of Science and technology. It wasrandom sample as fifty third-year students of English were chosen randomly.The study has come out with results as follows: students of Englishunderstand synonyms appropriately, they understand antonyms perfectly,these use synonyms in correctly and they use antonyms properly. Theresearcher recommends as follows: students of English should refer to thedictionary of synonyms and antonyms and they should consult the Newadvanced Cambridge learner’s dictionary with CD Rome inside.

ترجمة الملخص: تهدف الدراسة لتعالج مشكلة تحري الاستیعاب و إ ستخدام المترادفات والمتضاداتفي اللغة الإنجلیزیة .تحقق الدراسة الأهدافالآتیة :تساعد معلمي اللغة الإنجلیزیة بوعي حاجات دارسي اللغة الإنجلیزیة على أبعد ما تخصه المترادفات والمتضادات، توضح لمعلمي اللغة الإنجلیزیة أهمیة تعلیم العلاقتین كلتیهما، تثري ذخیرة طلاب اللغة الإنجلیزیة بالمفردات الصحیحة للمترادفات والمتضاداتوتدعم مصمميالمناهج بالمفردات المختارة للعلاقتین على حد سواء .استخدمت الدراسة المنهج الإحصائي والمنهح الوصفي والتحلیلي معاً .عینة الدراسة انحصرت في طلاب اللغة الإنجلیزیة بالسنة الثالثة في كلیة اللغات بجامعة السودان للعلوم والتكنولوجیا بمحلیة الخرطوم .وهي عینة عشوائیةلخمسین طالب تم اختیارهم عشوائیاً .خرجت الدراسة بالنتائج الآتیة :طلاب اللغة الإنجلیزیة یستوعبون المترادفات والمتضادات بصورة صحیحة، یستخدمون المترادفات بصورة خاطئة وهم یستخدمون المتضادات بصورة صحیحة.الباحث یوصي كما یجب وینبغي :أن یرجع دارس اللغة الإنجلیزیةإلى القاموس المتخصص في المترادفات والمتضادات وأن یستشیر قاموس كامبردج الحدیث المتقدم المزود باسطوانة للقارئ.
