ترجمة الملخص

This study aimed at identifying the degree of loneliness, depression and alienation among 3rdyear students at (Al-Quds, Birzeit, and Hebron) and studying the relation between loneliness, depression and alienation of students. Furthermore, it aimed at knowing the effects of the study variables (gender, birth order, major, permanent place of residence, and current residence) on the intensity of loneliness, depression and alienation. The study sample consisted of 357 third–year students from Al-Quds, Birzeit and Hebron universities, chosen at random It represented 10% of the student's population during the academic year (2007-2008). The number of the whole population was (3566) students. For the purposes of the study, the researcher used three instruments: the loneliness measurer prepared by Dasouki (1988), Depression Beck list II translated by Al-Ansari, and Alienation Measurer prepared by the researcher. Each instrument was validated by submitting it to experts. The reliability of each instrument was also calculated according to Cronbach Alpha. All the instruments showed high reliability coefficients. The most important results were: The degree of loneliness and alienation in the study sample were average, while degree of depression was high. There were no significant differences in loneliness, depression, and alienation due to the variables of gender and major. There were significant differences in the social dimension of the feeling of loneliness and in favor of the last child. Significant differences were found in the grand mean of the feeling loneliness and in its two dimensions: the social and the refusal by others, in favor of the refugee camp residents. Significant differences were found in the feeling of loneliness and in two of its dimensions: the social and refusal by others due to present residence and in favor of the student who lives alone. No significant differences in the degree of depression were found due to birth order or present residence. Differences were found in depression degree due to the permanent residence and in favor of those who live in the village. Significant differences exist in the degree of alienation of the sample due to birth order in the dimension of meaninglessness in favor of the first, then the middle ordered, while there were no significant differences on the total mean or the means of the other dimensions of alienation. Significant differences existed in the degree of alienation due to the permanent residence variable: on the dimensions of meaninglessness and helplessness in favor of those students خwho live in the camp, and on alienation from self in favor of city residents. While it was in favor of city in residents in the total degree. There were significant differences in the degree of alienation on the dimension of meaninglessness in favor of those who live with their families. On the social isolation dimension, the difference was in favor of the student who lives alone. A Significant positive correlation was found out between loneliness and depression. While a significant negative correlation was found out between loneliness and alienation
