La présente recherche porte sur l’étude de la représentativité de la figure de Sophonisbe dans l’histoire littéraire et l’histoire des idées, à travers l’examen approfondi d’un corpus du XVIIe siècle où elle apparaît de façon réurrente. Elle se structure en trois parties. La première partie, essentiellement thématique, met l’accent sur la naissance de la figure littéraire de Sophonisbe, figure fortement présente dans le théâtre classique français et plus précisément dans la tragédie. Cette partie consacre une large part à la définition et à l’identification de l’héroïsme féminin en général et de l’héroïsme de Sophonisbe en particulier. La deuxième partie de cette étude consiste à analyser dans les détails les différentes composantes de l’héroïsme de Sophonisbe. Plus particulièrement, elle étudie les différents portraits que nous brossent les dramaturges de cette héroïne. Cette partie se focalise sur la dimension rhétorique du discours dramaturgique de Sophonisbe dans les trois œuvres. La troisième partie porte sur l’étude de l’impact de Sophonisbe sur la femme moderne en général et plus particulièrement sur la femme tunisienne tant sur le plan historique que culturel. Cette partie ménage une ouverture vers la modernité de cette figure et ses avatars, réels ou fictionnels. En transgressant les codes de l’époque, elle a marqué l’histoire. Cette thèse, ayant pour objectif de corriger le déséquilibre de la place accordée à Sophonisbe ainsi qu’à de nombreuses femmes, a permis dans une première étape de faire ressortir, à travers les nombreux exemples, que les femmes sont les grandes oubliées de l’histoire. Notre défi était, dans une seconde étape, de réhabiliter des figures féminines méconnues ou invisibilisées pour leur rendre justice et d’en faire connaître l’histoire.

This research focuses on the study of the representativeness of the Sophonisbe figure in the history of literature and the history of ideas, through an in-depth examination of a seventeenth- century corpus in which she appears recurrently. It is structured in three parts. The first part, essentially thematic, focuses on the birth of the literary figure of Sophonisbe, a figure strongly present in French classical theater, and more specifically in tragedy. A large part of this section is devoted to defining and identifying female heroism in general, and Sophonisbe's heroism in particular. The second part of this study consists of a detailed analysis of the various components of Sophonisbe 's heroism. More specifically, it examines the various portraits of this heroine painted by the playwrights. The third part explores the impact of Sophonisbe on modern women in general, and on Tunisian women in particular, both historically and culturally. By violating the codes of the time, she left an indelible mark.on history. The aim of this thesis is to correct the imbalance in the prominence given to Sophonisbe and many other women. The first step is to highlight, through numerous examples, that women are the unsung heroes in history. Second, our challenge is to remember the forgotten or female figures who were made invisible in order to do them justice and restore their history.
