الملخص

A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted at the eightbasic schools at Elsokki town –Sinnar State.The objective of this study was to measure the prevalence ofmalaria among the school children and the relation to age, gender,environmental and socio-economic factors and others. The study wasconducted over five months from December 2006 to April 2007.Three hundred forty nine (349) pupils were selected from theeight basic schools using Multi-stage stratified random samplingmethod. A questionnaire was directed to them to collect informationabout disease. Blood specimens were collected and examined undermicroscope.The study provided many essential results about theprevalence of malaria at the study area which were as follows:-The prevalence was found to be (10%). Males more infected thanfemales. The age group (6-9) years old are more infected withdisease. The environmental and socio-economic factors were havingsignificant effects on malaria infection, particularly the familyincome.On the findings, prevention measures were recommended tocontrol the disease and protect the basic school children and theircommunity from the disease.
