The current study which is entitled” The narrator’s role in forming the cultural identity in Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels” aims at understanding the relation that links the narrator in the narrative text with the cultural identity and how the narrator participates with what relates to it including narrative form and vision when forming this identity. The reasons behind choosing this topic relate to the studies rarity that tackled this narrator as a culturally active in Warid Badr Al Salim’s works. However, previous studies focused on implications and the general narrative structure without paying attention to devices of forming the identity through the narrator’s voice and perspective. Therefore, the current study tries to bridge this critical gap, as well uncovering the way of the narrator’s employment in forming the cultural discourse inside the narrative text. The stud adopted the structural narrative method by analyzing some selected texts from novels of the Iraqi Warid Badr Al Salim. The study reached at knowing the crucial role in forming the cultural identity through the novels’ emphasis on the society’s troubles and struggle, the political conditions that surround him including the political, economic, religious, cultural, and ethics ones. Every type of these has its significant role especially the omniscient and the participant. It was found that Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels based only on these two characters. The plan of the study contained the preface entitled ‘ the narrator and the cultural identity, it has three parts. The first part discussed the narrator concept by its linguistic and terminological meaning besides studying everything relates to it. The second part stated also the identity concept by its linguistic and terminological meaning as well the identity relation with other sciences reaching to criticism and literature. The third part tackled the biography of Warid Badr Al Salim and some of his publications. The first chapter of this study was devoted to the novelist and his role in forming the cultural identity. It was found that Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels are divided into novels of omniscient narrator and novels of participant narrator. Based on this,, the chapter was divided into two sections. The first was about the participant narrator and his role in forming the cultural identity. The second section dealt with the omniscient narrator and his role in forming the cultural identity in Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels. The second chapter discussed the three types of the narrative forms: the narrated, displayed, and the conveyed, and the role of each type in forming the cultural identity in Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels. Hence, the chapter was divided into three sections; each section dealt with one type of these forms and its role in forming the cultural identity in forming the cultural identity. The third chapter was devoted to the narrative vision which is in turn divided into three types: from behind, with, and from the outside. Thus, this chapter has three sections, each section contained one of these three types and their role in forming the cultural identity in Warid Badr Al Salim’s novels and representing its changes in the contemporary Iraqi context. It was declared that the narrator’s voice, including its narrative patterns and levels, participated in a multiple cultural awareness reflects tensions of the social and political reality and reveals the individual self-conflict with the collective memory.
