The complexity of construction projects increases with project size. This scenario is particularly significant for residential construction projects in Sharjah, ranging fromone-floorvillas to high-rise buildings. The severe outcomes of failed projects for all stakeholders warrant a broad understandingof thefactors that make large projects relatively more complicatedto manage. The purpose of this paper is to identifyand classify factors that complicate managing construction projects when their sizes increase using fuzzy AHP. Based on the literature review, this thesis finds three broad categories of factors that would make larger project harder to manage, namely, technical, operational, and interpersonal. For each of these three main factors, sub-factors were also identified. After identifying these factors from the literatures, experts were consulted about them to add or drop any factor or sub-factor that is relevant to Sharjah circumstances. A fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (AHP) is used to rank these factors and sub-factors in terms of significance. Technical factors were the most significant factors that complicated the management of larger projects, followed by interpersonal factors. As for sub-factors, the management of quality, technology, planning, communication, and leadership becomes more challenging with the project size. Cost management, Stakeholder management and supply ivchain management were found to be the least significant sub-factors that complicates the management of larger projects. Based on these findings, this thesis recommends creating courses, workshops and seminars to ensure that project managers are able to handle big construction project, alongside with enabling small construction companies to access advanced technologies to enable them succeed in completing small construction projects before moving to big construction projects
