- Atlas pistachio is an endemic species of North Africa, it represents an emblematic case of the Algerian genetic heritage. It has long been exploited for the purposes of basic scientific research and the development of various products. The pistachio tree is adapted to arid and semi-arid regions where it plays a very important role in the fight against desertification and erosion. Despite the harsh climatic conditions and anthropogenic pressure, it has managed to develop and survive. The objective of this study was, on the one hand, to explore the mycodiversity of the communities of Glomeromycota and the root mycoendophytes associated with the Atlas pistachio and, on the other hand, to evaluate the spatio-temporal variation of these communities between two populations of Pistacia atlantica Desf. of the wilaya of Laghouat (Algeria) (Dayate El Gouffa and dayate Hassi Delâa). A total of 50 species of mycoendophytes and 214 Glomeromycota species have been isolated and identified. The microscopic identification revealed a dominance of the genera Fusariumand Rhizoctonia for the mycoendophytes and Acaulospora and Glomus for the Glomeromycota. Positive and some negative correlations are described between the inventoried mycoendophyte genera and only positive correlations between the Glomeromycota genera. Diversity index revealed a remarkable richness of the fungal microbiome. Intra-population and inter-population variability of mycodiversity was noted, with an increasing distribution of spores in young trees and decreasing in old trees according to the soil depth gradient. Apparently the edapho-climatic conditions contribute effectively in the structure and distribution of the fungal microbiome in the rhizosphere of the pistachio tree and in the internal tissues of the roots. These findings could be further applied to protecting and managing the health of this endangered specie
