الملخص

The aim of this study was to calculate patient doses in term of entrance skin dose (ESD) and effective dose (ED) for selected type’s radiography examinations, and compared them with a previous studies. This work was performed in five hospital sin Khartoum, in diagnostic x-ray department, each of them equipped with conventional x-ray units. The study was mainly focused on the most frequently arrived radiography examinations including chest, lumber spine and cervical spine examination. Firstly, the Cal does software was calibrated using a rad check dosimeter. In the second step, the parameters (current (mAs), potential (kv), and the time (ms)) and the other examinations related data including the patients ID, patients age, patients six, skin to source distance, projection type and examination type were collected for 121 patients (male and female)who underwent radiography examinations. These parameters and data then were used as input parameters for the CAL Dose X-35 software and the entrance skin dose and effective dose were calculated of each patient. The results showed that the average calculated entrance skin doses were.(0.146PA)(1.2, AP), (0.74,)(0.72)and(0.142), (0.131)for 0.036, chest, lumber spine and cervical spine respectively. And the average effective doses were (0.75), (0.37) and(0.073) for chest, lumber spine and cervical spine respectively. The calculated entrance skin doses and the effective doses ware found to be close to the previous studies except dose calculation for the cervical spine; that may be refer to loss of add filtration in one machine from five hospital or the potential were chosen by technician.
