الملخص

This prospective study was conducted in Sudan in the period from April2001 to March 2002. The main objectives of this study were to determinethe incidence of malaria infection in renal transplanted patients in Sudanand to determine the effect of malaria infection on the renal graftfunction.Thick blood films were used to diagnose malaria infection by giemsastain technique and the blood urea and serum creatinine were used toestimate the renal graft function.148 renal transplanted patients attending the outpatient clinic inKhartoum Kidney Dialysis Center were followed for complete one year. The majority of the patients (80%) were living in Khartoum State, themain immunosuppressive combination regimen used by these patientswas cyclosporine, azathioprine and predisolone (80%).Malaria infection incidence and the clinical course of the disease wereobserved in the affected patients and the effect of malaria infection on thegraft function was studied. The incidence of malaria infection in renal transplanted patients wasfound to be3.5% compared to 7.49% in the general population inKhartoum State in the same period.Simple uncomplicated malaria does not affect renal graft function. Earlydiagnosis and early efficient treatment of malaria infection in renaltransplanted patients prevent the development of severe complications.
