الملخص

As the result of the increase of number of students at the English department inTlemcen University, classroom management becomes one of the most difficultchallenges for teachers especially novice ones. Therefore, learning in general, andteacher-student interaction in particular may be affected because of huge number ofstudents in EFL class. The purpose of this research was to investigate the most seriouschallenges and problems in large size class and to reveal the reasons that hinder theteacher-student interaction. The study was a descriptive research relied on thequantitative and qualitative methods. The population under study included (60)students chosen randomly from three different groups (1st year students), and (10)teachers from the department of English, Tlemcen University. The research tool usedfor collecting data, is the questionnaire for both teachers and students and the datawere given both quantitative and qualitative treatment. The outcome of the studyindicated that teacher in overcrowded classes face many problems including noisemaking, lack of individual attention and classroom management are issues thatinfluence interaction in the class . So, to solve this problem it is necessary to adoptnew teaching aid in addition to the methods and techniques that should be appliedwhile teaching those classes. Furthermore, the research therefore recommended thatteacher and students can use the findings to improve classroom management practicesfor better interaction
