الملخص
Seventy seven farmers were checked for the use of pesticides in salad vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumber, sweet pepper, garden rocket, lettuce and snake melon. The survey covered Summer, Autumn and Winter seasons with collection of samples of these salad vegetables for estimation of pesticides residue, as food contaminants in each. Almost one fourth of these farmers used the pesticide malathion with all salad vegetables tested. Pesticides detected in Summer tomatoes included traces of ethorophos, parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl and triazophos-ethyl. Autumn tomatoes were also found to contain trace residues of chlropyrifos, ethoprophos, dimethoate, malathion, oxamyl, beside parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl and omethoate. Only traces of chlropyrifos were detected in Winter tomatoes. The pesticides residues were detected in Summer lettuce included ethoprophos, parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl and methamidophos whereas no pesticides residue were detected in other seasons of lettuce. Summer garden rocket was found to contain residues of ethoprophos (0.15 ppm), and traces of parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl, dimethoate, omethoate, malathion and methamidophos. In Autumn garden rocket, chlropyrifos (0.46ppm) and traces of acephate residues were detected, whereas the same salad vegetable was completely free from any pesticides in its Winter harvest. The Summer harvest of sweet pepper was found to contain residue of ethoprophos (0.17ppm) and traces of parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl, triazophos-ethyl and quinalphos. In Autumn, only traces of endosulphan and phosphamidon residues were detected in sweet pepper, while the same salad vegetable was completely free from any pesticides in its Winter harvest. Residue of ethoprophos (0.17 ppm) and traces of residues of malathion, methamidophos, azinophos methyl, parathion methyl, paraxon ethyl and dimethoate were detected in Summer cucumber, whereas only phorate (0.3ppm) and traces of endosulphan-1 were found in its Autumn harvest. Non of pesticides were detected in Winter cucumber. The Summer harvest of snake melon was found to contain residues of ethoprophos (o.36ppm), paraxon ethyl (0.12ppm) and traces of parathion methyl. In Autumn season, traces of dichlorovos and phosphamidon residues were detected in snake melon, whereas no pesticides were detected in the same salad vegetable during Winter harvest. It was obvious that most salad vegetable farmers in Khartoum State tend to use pesticides with Summer and Autumn crops and most of these pesticides did not meet Codex specifications with respect to using pesticides in food plants.
