Investigating FL Learners’ Errors of Pronunciation with Regard to Spelling: the Case of MMUTO EFL License Learners

الملخص

This study investigates the issue of learners’ errors of pronunciation with regard tospelling, that is to say, dealing with errors of pronunciation by making relation tothe written form. Our study aims at finding the major sources of pronunciationerrors committed by learners of English when they read, and also to reveal therelationship between the written medium and the spoken one. To investigate thisproblematic, we have used two theories in relation to language learning; the firstone is Error Analysis Theory (EAT), which enabled us to analyze the errorscommitted by learners of English, the second one is Contrastive Analysis Theory(CAT) which enabled us to compare between some elements of the Target Languagestructure with those of the learners’ L1 like: phonology and morphology, to predictthe difficulties the learners might encounter. For gathering data we used tworesearch tools which are: a questionnaire that is administered to teachers of Englishat MMUTO department of English and a recording test which is organized forlearners of English from licence levels. The results of the collected data are thenrepresented in form of tables, diagrams, charts, and statistics. The gathered data isthen analyzed by using descriptive statistical method and Qualitative ContentAnalysis which allowed us to confirm the hypotheses of this research and to answerthe questions that are asked in the General Introduction
